Fasting has been around for a looong time. For centuries people have known of the powerful physical and spiritual effects of cleansing fasts. Note: fasts do not equal starvation or deprivation! Fasting simply means taking a break from solid foods so your body has a chance to rest from digestion to focus on repair.
