Who is Kris Carr?
That's moi! I’m Kris Carr, New York Times and #1 Amazon best-selling author, wellness activist and cancer thriver. And I am passionate about... YOU. This is my soul space where I share my experiences and reflections through blogs and videos about plant-passionate living, health, happiness, spirituality, compassion and all things Crazy Sexy. Whether you’re a patient or someone who’s interested in better well—being—mind, body and spirit—all are welcome to the sacred party.
My story... I’ve been living with cancer for over a decade and it’s taught me so much about purpose, passion and wellness. On Valentine’s Day in 2003, I was diagnosed with a rare and incurable (yet thankfully slow-growing) stage 4 cancer. This whiskey tango foxtrot moment (that’s military lingo for WTF?!) sparked a deep desire in me to stop holding back and start living like I mean it! Though I couldn’t be cured, I could still be healthy—I could still participate in my well-being, feel good, love harder and enjoy my life more fully. So I hit the road on a self-care pilgrimage and have never looked back. Nearly ten years later, my life is truly, madly magical—even while still living with cancer. If I can pull that off, just imagine what YOU can do.
What I learned transformed my life forever and I think it can help yours too. Through my books and film, my journey has resonated with thousands of health, spiritual wealth and happiness seekers. CanSer babes and “Prevention is HOT” cheerleaders have hopped on board the Crazy Sexy train to learn how to look and feel better, lose weight, reduce stress and suffering, have more energy and nourish their spirits—even Oprah got excited about our wellness revolution.
My wake-up call encouraged me to make a total lifestyle upgrade inside and out. It taught me how to listen to my brilliant inner guide, brought me back to nature (my church), the garden and kitchen (my pharmacies), and connected me more deeply with the people and animals who set my heart ablaze. I learned that a nutrient dense, plant-passionate diet rules, the Standard American Diet destroys (everything), stress sucks (life-force), exercise is non-negotiable (great for your head, heart, cells and ass-ets), joy is utterly contagious, and having fun must be taken very seriously.
Bridging Western Medicine and Integrative Care While there’s currently no cure for my slow-growing cancer, that doesn’t mean that I’m not a fan of Western Medicine. I have an oncologist who I adore and who continues to monitor my condition. If my disease were to become aggressive or if effective and proven treatment options became available, I’d absolutely consider them. I fully believe in a balanced approach to healing and I want to see a world where doctors and patients embrace intelligent medicine as well as healthy lifestyle practices. For cancer patients (all patients really) I strongly advise including open-minded, well-educated practitioners on your team. Find the best conventional doctor for your disease as well as a holistic practitioner who can teach you how to care for your entire system. Heck, if you’re lucky you’ll get a two-fer—a doctor who is skilled at both approaches. Disease isn’t an either or situation, neither is health. Be the bridge. Seek the bridge. What is the Crazy Sexy diet & lifestyle?
The Crazy Sexy Diet is a vegetarian—or better yet, plant-based—program that emphasizes balancing your body’s pH by eating more lush whole foods, low-glycemic fruits, raw veggies, alkalizing green drinks, and super-powered green smoothies. By increasing the amount of alkaline foods you eat while decreasing acidic foods (animal products, processed sugars and starches, etc.), you reduce inflammation and boost immunity and life force. In short, you stack the good-health odds in your favor.
The Crazy Sexy lifestyle is all about self-care, self-love and respect for the animals and planet. This way of living focuses on creating a life centered around joy, prevention and thriving (not depriving!). I’m here to help you find ways of thinking, moving and nourishing your inner world that’ll fill you with happiness so that you’re addicted to your health!
